ICT in school scheme is a Government of India scheme for assisting states for infrastructure development and putting in place ICT enabled education
The Project Monitoring and Evaluation Group, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India after considering the Computer Education Plan submitted by the State had sanctioned an amount of Rs. 50.8 crores for a period of 5 years from 2007-08 to 2011-12 (Rs.10.16 cr per year) for the implementation of centrally sponsored scheme of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Government and Government aided schools in the state.
As first installment of this, an amount of Rs. 10.16 crores was allotted to the state. The IT@School project is the nodal agency for its implementation

The Project has completed a detailed School survey by using the
Master trainers of the Project to evaluate the existing infrastructure
in schools during October-November 2007.
An assessment of actual infrastructure availability in schools was
forwarded to all MLA, MP, LSGs in their respective constituencies, so
that the funds available under them can be utilized more fruitfully
among the schools which actually need the assistance.
A
complete data base of the computer and other infrastructure available
in schools including the specifications and no. of computers to be
upgraded and repaired are available. The detailed graph in regard shown
above.
Workshops were held in every revenue district to avail of details for further infrastructure requirements in schools, the participants of which include principals and School IT coordinators from all schools. The School Plan is the backbone of the current supply of computer and accessories being undertaken by IT@School Project
A technical committee of the IT@School Project was constituted with Dr. Jayasanker (rtd. Principal, Barton Hill Engineering College and an eminent technocrat) and Sri Anvar Sadat, Executive Director, IT@School Project as convener. The other key members are from Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Kerala State IT mission (KSITM), Information Kerala Mission (IKM) etc.
The Government vide G.O(Rt.)5120/2007/G.Edn., Dated 9/11/2007 has authorized the Director of Public Instructions (DPI) to constitute a technical committee to centralize the price, specification, quality and service conditions of computer and hardware/software purchase to schools.
The Technical Committee appointed vide Order No.NEP-3/80281/07/DPI of the DPI dated 07.12.2007 was the monitoring body for Price and implementation strategy of the Scheme.
The Technical Committee’s identified Keltron as service provider, based on condition that the purchase will be made transparent ensuring the participation of Technical Committee at every purchase process adopted by Keltron regarding this supply.
The Technical Committee has monitored and decided on the specification and rates of the items to be supplied. The specification of the computer and accessories of the supply currently being undertaken is as follows:
